What to Wear Wednesday

Hey guys, this is Heather here to post on our number one question. It usually starts out something like…
Help! We have a session booked next week and I have no idea what to dress the kids in!

Since we can’t get into all of your closets before your session and it’s really difficult to describe this kind of thing over the phone… I’ve decided to start up What to Wear Wednesday. Hopefully, I’ll keep on track every week! 🙂 Now, by no means do I expect anyone to show up in these outfits item for item, but this does give you a good direction to start from. And, I also realize it would be very expensive to buy an entire set of coordinating clothes just before a photo session. So, these are good pointers to follow when buying new clothes for the kids each season.

Some things to keep in mind… generally,

Try to coordinate but not be too matchy-matchy
Choose a few colors to pull from
Keep some personality to it — meaning it’s ok to dress up, but try to resist dressing the kids too formal. Let us capture your family as you really are.
Lastly, don’t be afraid to take some risks. It’s so easy to put everyone in khakis or blue jeans and same color shirts (let’s face it, we’ve all done it – myself included!), but next time kick it up a notch. Especially for an outdoor session, don’t be afraid to add some differing colors and patterns to the mix!

I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Without further ado, here is the first set I’ve put together. I’ve made sure to include all links under the image:

Mom:Dress from Boden, Handmade Bracelet from Etsy

Dad: Shirt from Banana Republic, Pants from Boden, Shoes from Banana Republic

Brother: Shirt from Gymboree, Shorts from Boden, Shoes from Boden

Big Sis: Outfit from Gymboree

Little Sis: Outfit from The Silly Wagon, Handmade Headband from Etsy

If you haven’t discovered Etsy yet, run don’t walk over there! It is a treasure trove for anything handmade, and a great place to find the finishing touches for yourself or your home. I just love the idea of supporting work from home businesses, and you can even do a local search for Knoxville artists!
